The fourth week of April (April 23 – 27) is Earth Week, and student leaders from UCI’s Sustainability Co-Curricular Working Group* have coordinated with campus organizations and departments to offer a week of free giveaways, games, and special events.

ASUCI Sustainability Project Commission will be hosting an Earth Week Kickoff tabling event at the Student Center. Come by to measure your personal ecological footprint and get pumped about Earth Week 2018!

UCI Dining Sustainable Foods Fair
11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Gateway Plaza
Join over 25 clubs, organizations, departments and sustainable vendors in celebrating the many facets of sustainable foods, with tasty sustainable samples, local edible plants, activities, raffle prizes and more!

Documentary Screening and Discussion: ‘Abundant Land’
3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
Cross Cultural Center
Join Global Partners for Sustainability (GPS) for a screening of Abundant Land: Soil, Seeds, and Sovereignty.
Abundant Land is a 60-minute documentary which follows a group of Hawaiian residents on the island of Moloka’i as they oppose the biotech industry’s use of their land to test pesticide resistant seeds and work to restore an integrated food system based on ancient Hawaiian farming practices and permaculture.

Bee Aware and Farm to Fork

The Anteatery
Bees are critical to the health of our ecosystems and the sustainability of our food supply. 90% of wild plants and 35% of food crops grown by humans depend on insect pollination. Almost 80% of all pollination is performed by honey bees — nature’s hardest workers. Look out for the “bee” next to the foods that need bees to thrive! We will also be featuring local foods from farms within 250 miles of UCI.

This information fair will serve to promote sustainability on our campus and provide our students and staff the opportunity to become involved in sustainability (both on and off campus).

Green Career Panel & Fair
5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m
Mesa Court Community Center
UCI Housing Sustainability and UCI Global Sustainability Resource Center – GSRC cohost this event, which will allow student job seekers to learn more about potential employers and available opportunities in the sustainability field as well as hear stories of success from a diverse panel of professionals.

CalFresh Enrollment Clinic
10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Student Center
UCI’s FRESH Hub is hosting a CalFresh Enrollment Clinic for students interested in enrolling in the program. CalFresh is a nutrition assistance program sponsored by the USDA that helps people purchase healthy foods. The program issues monthly electronic benefits on an EBT card that can be used at most grocery stores!
