Green Buildings

Twenty-four buildings at UC Irvine carry U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification. The campus has 14 LEED Platinum and ten LEED Gold awards for new construction, among the most LEED Platinum and Gold buildings at any U.S. college campus. The campus also has one LEED Silver for a renovation and another LEED Gold for a building interior.

LEED certification provides independent, third-party verification that a building was designed and built using strategies aimed at achieving high performance in key areas of human and environmental health: sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.
