Engagement Overview

Campus Engagement: The Office of Sustainability contributes staff expertise to conferences, student competitions, committees, and start up faculty initiatives; hosts and co-sponsors sustainability programming; and manages annual reporting on sustainability-related research and education for national campus sustainability ranking and rating competitions.

UC-wide Engagement: The Office of Sustainability contributes leadership to the UC-wide sustainability initiatives on Global Food and Carbon Neutrality.

Community Engagement: The Office of Sustainability is called upon to provide expertise and guidance from local civic to state, national, and intergovernmental settings. The Office also contributes to building community climate resilience on campus and with community partners across the Orange County region and assists UC Irvine faculty and students in pursuing community engaged sustainability scholarship through three interconnected strategies:

  • providing technical assistance through research expertise,
  • opening up space for public discourse, and
  • building capacity of relevant community stakeholders to participate meaningfully in public discourse.
