This Futuring UCI Anthropology colloquium explores places for anthropologists in environment and ecology through a conversation with David Seibert, Managing Partner and Senior Fellow of the Borderlands Institute and owner of Seibert Ecological Restoration LLC, led by recent UCI anthropology alums and current Postdoctoral Scholars Taylor Nelms
and Emily Brooks.
Dr. Seibert obtained his PhD in Anthropology from the University of Arizona and became the founding Executive Director of the Borderlands Institute in Patagonia, Arizona. The Institute is the first limited-profit company in Arizona with activities directed toward a state-defined “social good”—in this case, ecological restoration, education, and employment at the nexus of local border concerns, managing agency dictates, and research-based ecology. Working with border communities, scientists, and students, he works to build flexible conduits for multiple social justice, economic, and ecological projects within the U.S.-Mexico border region.
