Coastal Corridor Alliance – Beach and River Mouth Cleanup
Join Forces With Your Friends & Neighbors
The Coastal Corridor Alliance (CCA), formerly Banning Ranch Conservancy, is taking the Santa Ana River Coastal Corridor (the tidal influence zone) under our wing to help clean it up and restore the habitats it supports. Join us! Download the event flyer!
Tower 74 at the Santa Ana River Mouth, Every 4th Saturday
You and your community / family are invited to join the Alliance at Tower 74 in Newport Beach from 9 – 11 am every 4th Saturday.
The Santa Ana River watershed drains the water and waste of three counties at this site. That’s the trash and pollution from over six million people living in Southern California’s largest watershed, which empties in to the Pacific Ocean. Cleaning up our beach reduces pollution from this primary regional waterway. It also helps all our local animal friends including endangered shorebirds, such as California Least Tern and Western Snowy Plover.
“Out of all the beach clean ups that I’ve been to, this is the only one that reminded people that while the small pieces of plastic and styrofoam may not be all that exciting, it is critical to be picked up.”
– CCA Beach Cleanup Volunteer
The Basics
Let’s hang out and have fun while picking up trash at the Santa Ana River Mouth.
We begin at 9 am with a quick huddle to answer some questions and discuss the importance of our waterways, habitats, and fighting pollution.
What to Bring
- Your family, friends, community, and let’s get to work! The more the merrier.
- A smile
- A hat, sunscreen, & appropriate clothing / footwear for walking on the beach around trash
- Gloves and a 5-gallon bucket will be provided
- A full, refillable water bottle to stay hydrated
- An empty bladder: Our site is 0.3 miles away from the closest restroom (a 6 minute walk)
- If you have it: A trash grabber (for trash amongst the rocks) and a sifter (for tiny pieces of styrofoam and plastic in the sand).
