In celebration of Earth day on April 22nd, Made with Love at UCI’s monthly project is to give ideas of how UCI students can recycle certain materials into new crafts. Materials that would otherwise be thrown away can be re-crafted into new items that have practical use. One of the more advanced re-crafting ideas is using plarn (plastic as a substitute for yarn) to crochet. Our Earth Day: Crochet with Plarn workshop seeks to break down the steps and teach UCI students how to turn their countless plastic bags into yarn, before learning to crochet it into items like a basket or tote bag. This workshop will not only help reduce the number of plastic bags being thrown out and unused, but also teach people how to crochet.
