UCI graduate students are invited to register for this two day overnight event hosted by the UCI Community Outreach Partnership Center, School of Social Ecology, TRNERR, and Cultiva Ya!.


The Sustainable Tijuana Foodshed Tour will explore local activities representing efforts to grow robust food and watersheds that support public health, economic and ecological resilience. Participants will hear from leaders in the Tijuana food movement who are working across sectors and scales to demonstrate that the best response to an uncertain future is to create and support efforts that leverage imagination and innovation to rebuild a cohesive vision of the local and regional.

**Passports required – organizers will contact registrants for copies of passports in advance to expedite border crossing. Detailed logistics will be provided to registrants closer to the event.** 


Schedule of events:

Friday, October 16th 

8:00am depart from UCI

10:30am cross U.S.-Mexico border

11:30am Rancho Bajamosal: meet-and greet, activities by Cultiva Ya!, and enjoy a freshly prepared lunch (cost included in registration)

2:00pm Ecoparque: tour water treatment facilities and a new urban agroecology program by Transición Tijuana

4:00pm Telefonica Gastro Park lecture series: hear from local leaders of the local Tijuana food movement (bring dollars or pesos for food truck fare)

6:00pm check-in hotel

7:00pm organized walking tour (or free time) (bring dollars or pesos)

Saturday, October 17th 

8:00am meet in hotel lobby for breakfast para llevar (cost included in registration)

9:00am Mercado Hildalgo: celebrate the 60th Anniversary by perusing the famous Tijuana market (bring dollars or pesos for souvenirs)

11:00am Tijuana River Action Month clean-up and closing celebration: join the volunteers who have been working to promote a healthy Tijuana watershed and Estuary this month through service work at Friendship Park. Followed by a volunteer appreciation taco lunch prepared by los mujeres de Los Laureles (cost included in registration).

2:00pm depart for border crossing

6:00pm (estimated) arrival at UCI
