SRC Libraries

Seed Library

The SRC welcomes UC Irvine community members to our seed library where they may checkout seeds for their gardens. The purpose of the seed library is to foster a campus culture of sustainability and independence as it enables a community of backyard farmers. Seeds are FREE to checkout!

We welcome seed donations!

We invite community members to collect and donate seeds from plants in their garden that have “gone to seed” to replenish our library and continue to empower others to start their own gardens. Just one seed donation to the library is an appreciated and valuable gift to the community!

The Seed Library is located at the SRC in G464 of the Fourth Floor of Student Center. A directory of Student Center can be found here. Another campus seed library is located at the UC Irvine FRESH Basic Needs Hub.

The SRC Seed Library is self-serve and is available during regular open hours.

How it works:

  1. Choose your seeds.
  2. Get an envelope from the seed library.
  3. Label your envelope with the seed type and instructions for planting according to the packaging.
  4. Grab a gardening pot and soil located below the seed library.
  5. Fill out the sign-in sheet.
  6. Plant your seed at the SRC or in your home garden.
  7. Stay connected. Tag @ucisustainability on social media with photos of your new plant!

Book Library

The SRC has a small selection of books available for checkout. Many of the books within our library are readings that have been or currently are incorporated in our training programs and curriculum. Several of the books’ philosophies and teachings influence our approaches to cultivating a campus culture of sustainability. Our book collection includes:

  • Ishmael by Daniel Quinn
  • It’s Easy Being Green by Crissy Trask
  • What the Eyes Don’t See: A Story of Crisis, Resistance, and Hope in an American City by Mona Hanna-Attisha
  • Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants by Robin Wall Kimmerer
  • And more!

We are accepting book donations!

We would love to grow our book library to provide students with educational resources related to broad sustainability topics – everything from greening your living space to environmental justice. Stop by the center during regular open hours and drop off any books you would like to donate.

How it works:

  1. Choose your book.
  2. Fill out the sign-in sheet.
  3. Confirm your due date with SRC staff.
  4. Enjoy your read!
  5. Return the book by your due date.
