Food Recovery at the Farmers' Market

Sprouts of Promise

Volunteers needed for short shifts on Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the Costa Mesa and Newport Beach Farmers' Markets. Volunteers will work with farmers and cold food vendors to assess what foods are no longer suitable for sale at full price but still edible. They will then gather these foods for drop offs to local partner agencies, who ensure the food is distributed to communities in need.

This opportunity both expands sustainability practices at the farmers' market (by ensuring as little food as possible goes to waste) and increases food access in the community (by delivering farm-fresh produce and gourmet cold foods to communities who might not otherwise have access).

Shifts will last approximately 1-2 hours, depending on volume of produce recovered. Information on the specific markets can be found at

Please email Clara Zervigon, Volunteer Coordinator, at indicating your interest.
