UCI launches Green Labs certification program

Last fall, UC Irvine’s sustainability staff, select faculty and lab students collaborated on a six month pilot phase of the Green Labs program. Starting this spring, a wider range of laboratories can participate and become Green Labs Certified. Green Labs supports the UC Carbon Neutrality Initiative by providing “opportunities for energy efficiency, water conservation, waste reduction, and sustainable purchasing.” Other benefits that follow certification and reorganization include “designation on grant application, prolonged equipment life, decreased purchasing costs and team building”. In partnership with the non-profit organization My Green Lab, UC Irvine is making great efforts to conserve energy and reduce its carbon footprint.
