In 1996 landowners, business leaders, public officials, and environmentalists in Orange
County adopted one of the most progressive and innovative strategies using a regional
framework for conserving important biological diversity that allowed for continued
development and substantial economic growth. The efforts were intended to create ‘winwin’
outcomes, where balancing both ecological and societal creates a resilient landscape
and society.

Join us for this symposium is aimed at (1) discussing the intent of the NCCP mechanism put
in place 20 years ago, (2) discussing the realization, initial challenges, successes, and
lessons learned in this relatively short 20 history, and (3) contemplating how this approach
will work throughout the next two decades when challenged with new threats associated
with climate, economic, governance, and ecological changes.
