Irvine’s City Council is going to consider and possibly vote whether to eliminate the use of all toxic chemicals on City properties and replace them with organic alternatives! This is our moment.

Here’s where you come in – we need you there to tell the City Council why this change is important to you. Anyone who signs in can take three minutes during the public comment session to speak.

Council member Christina Shea has officially placed the item on the agenda, and Non Toxic Irvine will make a 15-minute presentation. City staff will also make a presentation on their current pesticide use.

This opportunity came after a very promising series of meetings on Jan. 19 with Irvine Mayor Steven Choi and City Council Members Beth Krom and Christina Shea. All were very interested, supportive and thanked us for bringing the issue to the council’s attention.

We were joined by UC Irvine’s Dean Baker, MD, MPH, Professor of Clinical Medicine, Director of UCI’s Center for Occupational and Environmental Health and Chief of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Dr. Baker provided invaluable insight on pesticides’ role in causing disease.
