Emerging Leaders in Science & Society (ELISS) is a pilot program hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), a 501(c)3 scientific society in Washington, D.C. and publisher of Science magazine. Each class of graduate student fellows focuses on a timely challenge that impacts multiple communities. Through our Idea Lab, fellows assess practitioner needs; identify useful practices, research, and technologies; and organize a national forum series to generate innovative approaches to the challenge.

Aging infrastructure, droughts, and environmental concerns are stressing water systems everywhere. Moreover, the recent crisis in Flint, Michigan is a reminder that we can’t take our water for granted. This will be a discussion-based local forum and will focus on challenges and opportunities for the future of Southern California’s water system.
