KCET, channel 28, is a non-commercial educational, independent television station located in Los Angeles, California, USA. This month, it is airing the TV show SoCal Connected featuring UCI’s food waste program. It will demonstrate UCI’s processes and commitment to keeping food waste out of landfill. The piece includes an interview with the Facilities Management Sustainability Program Manager, Anne Krieghoff, and will show what happens to the food waste when it leaves UCI, and is processed at Waste Management to become an energy source for water treatment plants.
This collaborative food waste recovery process includes UCI Facilities Management, UCI Hospitality and Dining, Aramark and Waste Management. The goal of this story is to demonstrate that this process used at UCI is repeatable and can be put into action at other schools and cities.
