Three Reflections for 2025 with Katie Porter

About the Speaker:

Porter is a professor of law at UC Irvine. Her expertise is in bankruptcy, consumer law, legislation process, statutory interpretation, mortgage foreclosure, debt collection and empirical studies of legal systems. From Jan. 3, 2019 to Jan. 3, 2025, Professor Porter served as a member in the United States House of Representatives representing Orange County communities. She served on the Financial Services Committee, the Oversight Committee, and the Natural Resources Committee. She is the author of the textbook, Modern Consumer Law (Wolters Kluwer 2016), a co-author of The Law of Debtors and Creditors (Wolters Kluwer 2014) and editor of Broke: How Debt Bankrupts the Middle Class (Stanford Press 2012), which showcases interdisciplinary empirical research. Porter earned her J.D. from Harvard Law School and her B.A. from Yale University.
