In this talk Dr. Hanna Garth will trace the development of the Los Angeles Food Justice Movement, from the early 2010s when policy advocates did not feel there was a cohesive movement to today’s clear food movement in the city. Drawing on ethnographic research she will trace the growth of the cohesive social movement and analyze the tandem development of a grass roots oriented definition of food justice. Focusing on the Los Angeles Food Policy Council and several local non-profits she demonstrates how the growth of this movement has impacted the proliferation of programs and food equity projects across the city.
