On Wednesday, October 12, Sustainability Initiative Director Abigail Reyes will be presenting with Janika McFeely, University of California Office of the President, in a workshop led by Corrina Grace, SERES, on Transformational Sustainability Leadership at a post-conference session during the 2016 Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education conference. The workshop will serve a mix of faculty and staff from peer campuses across the country.

Workshop participants will learn how the Sustainability Initiative at the University of California, Irvine, and the non-profit organization SERES have collaborated to offer UC students introductory and advanced level training in transformational leadership. These trainings include skills in community visioning and action planning, strategic questioning, and communication about critical food and climate issues, as well as community-building fora for students to reflect more deeply and critically about the global context of their sustainability work. UC is now in the process of expanding the trainings to be available on all ten campuses.

The October 12 workshop will offer an experiential taste of the approach underlying the pedagogy and provide a forum for colleagues to share similar approaches to sustainability leadership skills being advanced by session participants in different settings.
